What is it?
Our project is a service that provides free showers and haircuts for the homeless people of Barcelona. The staff team consists of hairdressers, working on voluntary basis, and security guards, ensuring everyone’s safety.
What does it look like?
It is a spacious building with an open-plan reception area and a waiting room. Passing through the reception area there is a corridor which leads to a storage room containing 20 big lockers where the users can deposit all their belongings for the duration of their stay. On the other side of the waiting room there are the showers. When opening the door there is someone who gives the user a towel, in a small room, also with a security guard. Then there are 6 doors; 5 for men and 1 for women (only 10% of homeless are women). On the other side of the doors there are showers but the showers have a lot of space so that there is room for them to change and leave all their clothes, and homeless people will be able to leave their belongings safe (we will be providing lockers with keys) and the locker room will have a CCTV camera. We are willing to provide lockers because we have noticed that homeless people always carry their belongings with them and most of the time they carry a lot of stuff, sometimes in a supermarket trolley .
